From reading the synopsis for the film, what genre of film do you think it is?  Please give reasons for your answer.

1. From reading the synopsis i suspect that the genre of the film is a romance/thriller, as it mentions her partner, which suggests that there is love involved. However it does go on to say about her dark secret which reinforces the idea of guiltiness and pain.

2. While reading the synopsis i got the impression that the movie genre was a love/horror. I think that i got this impression because it says, “she is constantly reminded about her dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her”. The words “haunts” and “terrifies” reinforces horror, which gives off a scary effect. On the other hand I also get the impression that it is to do with love as she wants to be honest with her partner but doesn’t want to lose him because of her mistakes in the past. This shows that she really does love and care for her partner, which does suggest love is involved in the movie.

3. Throughout the synopsis I knew that the genre was love and thriller, because of the words used. For example the words used that suggest love are “swept away” and “handsome man”. These suggest love because when you are in love with someone everything to you about them is amazing, eg, their looks, their personality etc, and you are “swept away” by how amazing and perfect they are. Where as the word that suggest horror are “worried”, “fearful” and “shattering”. This reinforces horror as these words are usually used in a horror synopsis and they create a scary image in the audiences head.

What impression do you get regarding the possible poster for the film? Think about what you would normally expect on a poster for this kind of film.

1. The film poster once again reinforced love and horror as on draft 1, the main characters are faded out that create a ghostly look, but then it is contrasted by the colour red and the position the couple is in which reinforces love.

2. I think by looking at movie draft 2, my first impression was that i could see that there was some sort of horror involved as the silhouette of the man reinforces darkness. It made me think after reading the synopsis that maybe the silhouette figure is to suggest to the audience that her conciousence is still haunting her and she is guilty of something, I also think that this is the reason why she is close to the cliff to reinforce a tragedy. However the couple look happy and in love which suggest that she is trying to put what has happened to the back of her mind and move on.

3. By looking at movie draft 3, my first impression was that it is the same as a usual movie poster, as it has a credit block and main master head. However I don't think this one is as good as the others as it doesn’t anchor the genre. For example you can see that it is romance, but it doesn’t show that straight away as you have to think about it first. However I don't see how its got anything to do with horror, the only thing that people may relate to horror is that the background image of the picture is black and white. Overall, I think there is room for improvement by showing horror is part of the genre, but the poster has got good points such as the way it is laid out and the conventions on the poster (masthead and billing block).

What are your first impressions of the poster and DVD cover?  Please consider the following in your answer: Choice of image / choice of fonts / colour scheme used / page layout.

1. I think that the poster is very good and persuasive to go and watch the film as it gives you an idea of what the film is about and the genre but you get the feeling that there is a twist involved as it shows a silhouette looking over them, which gives the idea that a twist is involved.

2. I think that the DVD cover grabs more attention compared to other DVD covers as the main cover looks like it could be the front cover of a novel. I also think the poster grabs your attention because it doesn't loom like a usual romance story as the man is looking over them. This is good because it teases the audience as they don't know what is going on but could also be misleading as they could get the wrong impression.

3. The DVD cover is good as it is laid out like a normal DVD cover would be, however I think to improve it, you could organise the back cover a bit more as it does look good, but could do with a bit more work. However I think the poster is very good as it doesn't give away a lot of information but tells the audience that they need to go and see it to find out the twist.

From your knowledge of the synopsis, do you think the poster drafts suit the film?  Please give reasons with regards to the designs.

1. I think the synopsis does suit the film because it shows that there is some sort of twist, as it relates back to 'her dark secret'. This is shown in the film poster draft 2 because the silhouette is looking at them, which suggests that he is there dark secret.

2. I think the synopsis does suit the film because it does give away that there is a twist. However by looking at poster drafts 1 and 3 it is not shown. This is good because it will surprise the audience, but I think it would be good if shown as it would be a teaser for the audience.

3. The synopsis is good as it reveals some information but not a lot. This is good as it will tease the audience and make them want to find out what happens. To improve I would show there is some sort of twist on drafts 1 & 3 as at the moment they look like a stereotypical romance story.

Overall, if I was to change anything after getting my feedback I would redo poster drafts 1 & 3 as they don't show that there is a twist involved which would be a good as it would tease the audience in till my movie was released. I would try to organise my DVD back cover more so it is easier to read. I think if I did make these changes it would improve my audience feedback, and would get more people involved and talking about the film.
